Split a PDF

Split a PDF into smaller files by page range, into equal chunks, or one file per page. It’s free and runs in your browser, and you get the parts back as a single ZIP.

or drop a file here

One PDF, up to 250 MB.

Processed on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to split a PDF

  1. Open your PDF

Every page shows up as a thumbnail so you can see what you’re cutting.

  2. Choose how to split

Type ranges like 1-4, 5-9, pick a number of pages per file, or go for one file per page.

  3. Check the labels

Each thumbnail gets a coloured “File 1”, “File 2” tag, so you can spot a wrong range before you split.

  4. Download

One part downloads as a PDF. Two or more come together in a ZIP.

Split PDF features

Ranges in any order

Write 5-1 and those pages come out backwards. A page can go into more than one part if you need it twice.

Fixed-size chunks

Useful for upload forms with a page limit. Set 10 pages per file and a 47-page document becomes five files, the last one with 7 pages.

Names that sort properly

Parts are named after the original with their page numbers, e.g. report-pages-1-4.pdf. In longer documents the numbers are zero-padded so they stay in order in a folder.

Split, extract or delete?

They overlap, so here’s the quick version. Splitting always gives you several files. Extract Pages pulls the pages you pick into one new PDF. Delete Pages keeps everything except the pages you mark.

If you’re splitting because a portal says the file is too big (not too long), try Compress PDF first. A scanned document often drops below the limit without being cut up at all.

Privacy and security

The PDF is split on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, and the parts are built in memory and handed straight to your browser to save.
