Numbering options
Five formats
Plain numbers, “Page 3”, “Page 3 of 12”, “3 / 12” or “- 3 -”.
Start anywhere
Begin at 1, 5 or 247. Useful when this document continues on from another one.
Mirrored for printing
For double-sided documents, numbers can sit on the outside edge of left and right pages, like a book.
Numbering a bundle of documents
Putting together an appendix pack or a court bundle? Merge the files first, then number the combined PDF so the count runs straight through. If each section needs its own numbering, number the files separately with the right start values and merge them afterwards.
Privacy and security
Numbers are added on your device and the PDF isn’t uploaded. That’s worth knowing if it’s a bundle of personal or legal papers.

Page Numbers FAQs
How do I skip the first page?
Enter 2- in “Number these pages”. Page 2 then gets your start number, usually 1. If you want page 2 to say “2”, set Start at to 2.
Will the numbers cover my text?
They sit at the margin you choose, 28 points (about 1 cm) from the edge by default. If your content runs close to the edge, increase the margin or move the numbers to the top.
Can I do Bates numbering?
You can start from any number, which covers simple Bates-style sequences. Prefixes such as case references aren’t supported yet.
