How to merge PDF files
Add the PDFs
Drop them onto the box above or tap to choose. You can add more later if you forget one.
Sort the order
Drag each card by its handle. Sort A–Z works too if your files are numbered.
Merge and save
Press Merge PDFs. The combined file is ready to download a second or two later.
What you can do when merging
Take only the pages you want
Type a range under any file, say 1-3, 7, and only those pages go in. Handy when you need the signature page from one document and the appendix from another.
Mix any page sizes
Your A4 letters can sit next to US Letter forms or landscape slides in the same file. Each page keeps the size it had.
No drop in quality
Pages are copied as they are. Text stays searchable and photos aren’t squashed, so the merged file looks exactly like the originals.
Getting the order right first time
Put a number at the start of each file name (01-cover.pdf, 02-contract.pdf and so on) and Sort A–Z will line them up for you. It sorts numbers properly, so 10 comes after 9 rather than after 1.
We tested merging with a 300-page document plus a three-page photo scan on a mid-range laptop and it took a few seconds. Phones manage too, but very large scans will be slower.
What doesn’t carry across
Bookmarks from the sidebar of each original PDF are dropped, and fillable form fields stop being fillable. Combining those from several files tends to cause clashes, so we leave them out. If you’re merging forms, fill them in and flatten them first.
Merged file too big to email? Run it through Compress PDF. And if you want page numbers running through the whole thing, add them afterwards with Add Page Numbers. There’s also a guide to combining PDFs on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android if you’d rather use what’s built into your device.
Privacy and security
Your files are merged inside this browser tab. They’re never sent to our server, so there’s no copy for anyone to keep. Close the tab and they’re gone from memory.
A password-protected PDF can’t be merged until it’s decrypted. If you know the password, Unlock PDF will save an open copy for you.

Merge PDF FAQs
How many PDFs can I merge at once?
Up to 100, with about 600 MB in total. Your device’s memory is the real limit: a laptop copes with hundreds of pages, an older phone may slow down with big scans.
Can I merge just some pages from each file?
Yes. Type the pages under the file, for example 2-5, 9. Leave the end off a range (4-) to go to the last page.
Why won’t it accept one of my files?
Usually it’s password-protected, or it isn’t really a PDF (a Word file renamed .pdf, for instance). The message under the file tells you which.
Do my files get uploaded?
No. You can check: open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab and merge something. You won’t see your files leave.
